When someone announces their Umrah trip, keep your words worship-centric and concise. Pair “Umrah Mubarak” with a dua for acceptance (qabūl), ease, and safe return. 

It’s Sunnah (Prophetic practice) for the traveler to also pray for those they leave behind, and for us to ask them for dua. So do not hesitate to kindly say, “Please remember us in your prayers while you are near the Kaaba. May Allah write the same for us soon.”

In fact, the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite specific supplications when bidding farewell to travelers and when traveling himself. These duas ask Allah for protection, piety, and ease during the trip.

1. بِسْـمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمْـدُ لله، سُـبْحانَ الّذي سَخَّـرَ لَنا هذا وَما كُنّا لَهُ مُقْـرِنين، وَإِنّا إِلى رَبِّنا لَمُنـقَلِبون، الحَمْـدُ لله، الحَمْـدُ لله، الحَمْـدُ لله، اللهُ أكْـبَر، اللهُ أكْـبَر، اللهُ أكْـبَر، سُـبْحانَكَ اللّهُـمَّ إِنّي ظَلَـمْتُ نَفْسي فَاغْـفِرْ لي، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِـرُ الذُّنوبَ إِلاّ أَنْـت 

Bismillahi walhamdulillah, Subhana alladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunnahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina la munqalibun… Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi faghfirli fa innahu la yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa Ant.

The translation of this beautiful dua is: “In the Name of Allah, and all praise is for Allah. Glory be to the One who has subjected this (ride) to us, for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves). And indeed, to our Lord we will surely return. All praise is for Allah (repeated thrice), Allah is the Greatest (repeated thrice). Glory be to You, O Allah. I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for surely none forgives sins except You.”

2. اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البرَّ والتقوى ومن العمل ما ترضى، اللهم هوِّن علينا سفرنا هذا واطوِ عنا بُعده، اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل

Allāhumma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wat-taqwā, wa minal-‘amali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ‘alaynā safaranā hādhā, waṭwi ‘annā bu‘dah. Allāhumma anta aṣ-ṣāḥibu fī as-safar, wal-khalīfatu fī al-ahl.
